Introduction to Homeschooling: A Workshop for Parents New to Homeschooling or Interested in Homeschooling

The topics that will be discussed include:
Homeschooling in Rhode Island: state laws, district policies and what to submit
101 Reasons Families Choose to Homeschool
Curriculum Planning: Resources, Learning Styles, Homeschooling Methods, A Typical Homeschool Day
The “S” word : socialization
EnrichRI volunteers with many years of homeschooling experience will present this program that covers the basics of homeschooling.

After the program, the presenters welcome you to stay and chat!

Who: this is open to the public, you don't need to be a member to attend.
Please RSVP if you plan to attend just so we have an idea how many people to expect.

Come to BSU for a night of science.
At 5 p.m., we'll do an Alien Substances Workshop. We experience simulated alien environments, including appearance, texture, scent, and in some cases even temperature, using common household items (and a few less common ones). Simulated environments include soil from Mars, the Moon, and Titan, lakes from Europa and Titan, Saturn's rings, Jupiter's atmosphere, Martian ice, and more!
At 5:45 p.m., we'll head up to the observatory deck to look at the night sky through telescopes!

Note the telescopes are on an open-air deck, please dress for warmth.

Intended audience: Kindergarten- 12th Grade
Cost: Free
Please register all kids who will attend and participate in the workshop.

Two sessions, each 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Think Like an Archaeologist is a two-session program at Brown University’s Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology. The sessions introduce students to the process of archaeology, from choosing an excavation site and recording a dig, to analyzing and caring for artifacts. Each session is hands-on, led by faculty, staff, and doctoral and master’s students from Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. This is a drop off class.


Audience: 10 and up. Aimed at grade 6.
