Every other Wednesday for 8 weeks starting March 13
3/13, 3/27, 4/10, 4/24 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Woody Lowden Center, 16 Howard Hill Rd, Foster, RI 02825 This program will focus on outdoor exploration, survival skills, foraging, wildlife, self-sustaining practices, and more. Our hope is that when given some guidance and tools children of all ages will take part in lots of child-led learning together. Exploring and learning about the world around them. At the same time, learning teamwork and important life skills while building self-awareness and esteem for themselves and others. Winter session weekly themes- *Tool making from rocks and bones *Your knife and how to safely use it *Camouflage- how to be invisible *Rainwater collecting and reusing - make a rain gauge We also encourage families to put together their own survival kit! *Compass *Fire starter *Magnifying glass *Kindling *Pocket knife Cost: $30 per family ( to keep costs low we may ask participants to bring in some of their own supplies). We need a minimum of 10 families enrolled in order to run this program. Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 6. *Note, to particpate in this program, the adult caregiver in the group must have a BCI on file! Field Trips
South County Museum
115 Strathmore St Narragansett, RI
In this 3 hour hands-on workshop, participants will learn about blacksmithing - the art of heating iron & steel and hammering hot metal on an anvil to change its shape. Participants will learn about heat management; use of the forge, anvil and hammer; safety; and bending metal. Each participant will have the opportunity to forge an S hook.
Closed toed shoes and tied back hair are required. Minimum 3 participants, maximum 6. Ages: 8-14 Cost: $75 Sign up by March 1. |
