Are you interested in learning about birds in Rhode Island and how to identify them? If so, the RIDEM Division of Fish & Wildlife invites you to “Come Birding With Me!”

If you know little to nothing about bird identification, this is a great place to start. Join us for a family-friendly morning workshop at Beavertail State Park to learn about the variety of birds that call the Rhode Island coast home for the winter; we will also learn how to use binoculars and a spotting scope, and about the importance of our feathered friends to the ecosystem.

Things to bring:

1) Binoculars/field guides– We will be able to provide binoculars, but feel free to bring your own. Bringing along a field guide is a plus, but we will have materials ready for you. It may also be helpful, as an additional resource, to download the Merlin app from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology prior to coming.

2) WARM clothing and sturdy shoes – Pile on the layers (hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, etc.)!!! We will be outside and New England weather is fickle. The wind on the coast can definitely add an extra chill factor, so hand/toe warmers may be a good idea too. We want everyone to be comfortable and warm, and recommend checking the temperature forecast prior to leaving the house.

3) Enthusiasm!

This program is free and is open to all ages.
Please let us know the ages of children attending.
Location: Beavertail State Park: Beavertail Rd., Jamestown, RI 02835. Parking is available near the lighthouse museum.

Registration deadline in February 21. Space is limited.
