Casey Farm
2325 Boston Neck Road
North Kingstown, RI
Casey Farm, located on Narragansett Bay, is one of the original plantation farms of the Colonial era. The farmhouse (circa 1750), surrounded by fields, barns, high stone walls and a family cemetery, was a site of Revolutionary activity. It has been in cultivation since the time of the Narragansett Indians. Today it a working, 300 acre Rhode Island Certified Organic farm.

This is a two part class offered by farm educators at Historic New England. Please bring a picnic lunch to eat between segments.

10 a.m. - 12 p.m: On the Farm
What is a farm and what happens there? To find out, students meet farm animals, explore fields and farm buildings, and participate in hands-on animal and seasonal crop activities that demonstrate how every element contributes to the success of the farm.

12 pm - 12:30 pm: Please bring a picnic lunch to enjoy

12:30 - 3pm: At the Bay
The salt pond and cobble beach at Casey Farm offer exciting settings to explore the diversity of life along Rhode Island’s greatest natural treasure: Narragansett Bay. Students learn about fresh and saltwater wetlands and then discover the wide variety of organisms that live in the salt marsh, salt pond, and cobble beach. The Jamestown Bridge provides a backdrop to a discussion of human influences on the bay.

There is no age requirement, but the programs are designed for grades 3-6. Register children only. Chidren under age 3 may tag along for free.

Cost: $12 / student
