Seasons on the Farm: Winter Farm Activities
When? Friday, January 27, 11am-12pm Who? Best for ages 4-10 but all are welcome. Where? Earth Care Farm in Charlestown RI A lot is happening on the farm in winter even though it is hard to see! Come hike the farm and talk about all the often underappreciated activity happening under the soil! The compost piles steam as the microrganisms produce a lot of heat while breaking down the particles of compostable material. While the farm fields are frozen, we will talk about why that dormant stage is important to many plants. The winter is a good time to really get curious as to what is going on in our soils. Winter hikers will warm up with a cup of hot cider included in this class. This is a series of farm based events over the year designed to give children the feel for the seasons on a farm. Feel free to register for any number of these events. Cost? $6 per child, max $15 per family. Adults free. No charge for children under age 4. If you are registering 1 or 2 children, enter the number of child attendees and select "individual price" when prompted If you are registering 3 or more children, enter 1 as the number of attendees, select "family price" when prompted, and use the comments to let us know who is coming. Register by January 20. |
