6:30 p.m. Book Club: Where the Mountain Meets the Moon
Teacher: Marcia Sirois
45 minute class
Audience: Age 7-14
You will need a copy of the book Where The Mountain Meets The Moon by Grace Lin. We will be reading on our own, then discussing this beautiful, whimsical book. Kids can read on their own, or have as a family read-aloud. We will need to read 8 chapters per week before each class. The chapters are short with larger font writing and should be easy, quick reading. In class, we will talk about the chapters we've read, what the characters are doing, and general discussion of the storyline.
Book Summary: Young Minli lives in the Valley of Fruitless Mountain, where she and her parents spend their days working hard in the fields. At night, Minli listens to her father's tales about the Old Man of the Moon, who knows the answers to everything. Minli sets out on a quest to find the Old Man of the Moon - he will know how she can bring good fortune to her family. Along the way, she meets many magical friends, including a talking fish, a powerful king, and a dragon who can't fly!

12: p.m - Backyard Herbalists
Teacher: Danielle Rose Durkin
45 minute class
Audience: Age 8-16
Learn how to use plants commonly found in your backyard for cooking meals and healing common issues like colds and scrapes. This will be informative for children and most parents. Learn to care for yourself through nature! Most materials needed for this class can be found in a typical kitchen.
Danielle has a long background in herbalism and wildcrafting.
Thursdays

11:00 am - Animals & Ecosystems
Teacher: Jessica Morgan
45 minute class
Audience: Age 5-8
In this class, we will learn about the animals found in North America with a focus on local ecosystems. Each week we will learn about a specific animal family, read a story, and participate in a related hands-on activity. We will also have time in each class for sharing a favorite object related to each week’s activity, with the goal of fostering social connection. Depending on the age range and interests of the class, each student could also research and present on an animal of their own choosing once during the 6 weeks.

2:00 pm - Scriptwriting: Let’s Make a Scene
Teacher: Laura Gans-Pomerantz
45 minute class
Audience: Age 10+
We will learn the basics of how to construct a scene. Each week for homework, students will write a short script based on a prompt. In the next class, we will take turns serving as actors to read each other’s scripts aloud (acting will be voluntary — no one needs to read if they don’t want to). Students will need to be able to share their work digitally and be able to screen-share.
Laura has an MFA in screen and television writing.

6:00 pm - Super States
Teachers: Marcia and Bryan Sirois
60 minute class
Audience: Age 8-12 / Grades 3-6
We will be virtually visiting and learning about the States of the USA. We will start with states in order of statehood. Optional topics of learning to pick from will include State Flower, State Flag, Founding Figures, Famous Landmarks, Geography, State Tree, Things to Do, Fun Facts, etc. Each student should be able to listen to the other kids and should be comfortable enough to talk during class when it's their turn. This first session will cover - Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
Marcia & Bryan are long time co-op teachers and will make sure this class is exciting, engaging, and fun, with an educational twist!
