Pick a country and prepare a presentation. Sign up is first come first serve (based on when your payment for this event is received) so please pick the country your kids want to study and let us know. To see what has been picked, scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the list of countries already being represented.
Who: All ages welcome. **This can be a family project or individual project . ** If your family would like to attend, and tour the countries, but not do a project yourself, you are welcome to do so. Cost for that is $5 per family. And we would need a headcount for the passports. Cost: $6 per one child or $11.00 per family of 2 or more kids. (Cost for those wanting to attend but not do a country themselves is $5 per family) After you sign up here, go to our SignUpGenius site to sign up your country! First come, first served for country selection. List your country in the "personal message" box when RSVPing. How: Most kids do their presentations on a tri-fold presentation board that will stand up easily on the tables that will be set up. You can display items in front of your board. I.E. Souvenirs, books, pictures, artifacts, coins, your own art work or crafts! They can also dress up in a way that represents their country, prepare handouts or create a diorama! Anything goes. I have included a checklist for ideas. Please include a flag which can be home made and bring a stamp or sticker that can be used as your country’s visa to fill passports. Children will be given “passports” when they check in. These will be used when they visit other countries where they can collect “visas” from each country. In the past I have just printed the country flag onto address label stickers. If you need an electrical outlet, please let us know as these are limited. Each presenter will also prepare a dish from their country to share with everyone at our International Buffet. Each year the food has been amazing!!! (Please bring an index card that list the ingredients and place it with the dish on the pot luck table and clearly label if the food contains any nuts.) Schedule: “Opening Ceremonies" will consist of a parade of flags around the venue. They will carry their flags and march around the display and end with a group photo! Kids can travel through the countries and enjoy the food. IDEAS CHECKLIST o LOCATE ON THE WORLD MAP o LOCATE THE CAPITAL AND 3 BIGGEST CITIES o WATER: LOCATE ANY RIVERS, OCEANS OR SEAS o FIND MAJOR MOUNTAIN RANGES o LANDMARKS: these are famous buildings or places that are very important to the country, and popular site for tourists to visit. o FLAG:COLORS, SYMBOLS AND MEANINGS o CURRENCY; www.banknotes.com/images.htm study pictures and symbols o LANGUAGE: choose some common words :hello, thank you..and record them on strips of paper with the English translation and pronunciation to teach it to others. o MAIN SOURCE OF INCOME : for example agriculture, or technology etc… o CULTURE: religion, traditions, national holidays o ART AND MUSIC: artwork, pottery, painting?
