Event Registration opens 3/1/23

The State Archives visit is a three part program, all of which occurs in the State Archives Reading Room.
The State Archives is home to more than 10 million letters, photographs, and important state documents that form a permanent, tangible record of Rhode Island’s rich history, dating back to 1638. For this field trip, students will rotate through stations where they will learn about primary sources, historical documents, and the Rhode Island State Archives.
Three stations with 15-20 minutes at each:
• Archives 101 (What about archives?)
o An introduction to the tools used at archives’ to safekeep historic records and the special considerations for document handling.
• Exhibit Walkthrough and mini talk
o A staff led talk about the exhibit, the content, and greater connections to RI history
• Document showcase (varied based on request)
o Significant historical documents, as well as documents of general interest, are pulled from the Vault and set up as a “From the Vault” mini display. Staff introduce students to each object and explain its significance.

PARKING: Limited on-site and metered street parking available.
