Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center
110 Pequot Trail
Mashantucket, CT
The Pequot Museum, located in an ancient cedar forest minutes, is the largest Native American museum of its kind in the world. This museum brings to life the history and culture of the Northeastern Woodland tribes in general and the Pequots in particular with exquisite detail. Highlights include views of an 18,000-year-old glacial crevasse, a caribou hunt from 11,000 years ago, and a 17th-century fort. Perhaps most remarkable is a sprawling "immersion environment": a 16th-century village with more than 50 life-size figures and real smells and sounds. This museum is tribally owned and operated.

We will meet at the entrance at 11 a.m. to go in together.
From there, we can break up and do self-guided tours.
Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to eat on the grounds.
Optional workshop: "Archaeology- A Window in the Past" at 1 p.m. (extra $5 per person)

Free audio narration is available. Museum guide is available here.

Optional Workshop: Archaeology- A Window to the Past
1 p.m. - 2 p.m., designed for ages 9-adult.
Do you know why archaeology is sometimes called our window to the past? Participants discover the answer in this hands-on program by working with simulated refuse heaps from 3 different time periods in Pequot history. The task is to identify and interpret artifacts from each time period.

COVID policy required by the museum:

1. Guest must wear face masks that cover the mouth & nose (no gators / bandanas) while on the property, no exceptions. Guests who forget a mask will be provided a disposable mask.

2. While on property, distancing of six feet between guests must be observed (aside from immediate family)

Cost:

Free for ages 5 and under

Add 'Archaeology's Window to the Past' Workshop for an additional $5 per person (adults & young children must pay too)
