This is a free one hour performance and conversation for kids aged 12+ (grades 7-12). Drop off only. Space is very limited.

Time Magazine called Angélique Kidjo "Africa's premier diva". The BBC has included Angélique in its list of the continent’s 50 most iconic figures. In 2011, The Guardian listed her as one of their “Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in the World”. This three time Grammy Award winner blends the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with R&B, funk and jazz. Her latest album is a brilliant reimagining of the Talking Heads album Remain in Light.

This performance is free through FirstWorks. The FirstWorks Raise Your Voice initiative amplifies diverse voices and celebrates difference through the performing arts. Throughout FirstWorks’ 2019-20 season, world-class artists collaborate with Rhode Island artists to foster empathy through educational and community arts engagement. Angélique Kidjo embodies the ideals of the Raise Your Voice initiative through her work as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and through her influential music and collaborations.

The show starts at 3, but plan to arrive 2:30-2:45 to meet our chaperone (Amy Kinney) - details to come.
