Who? Grades 5 - 8 and adults (no younger siblings please)
Where? Providence Performing Arts Center What? Professional and highly acclaimed tap dancer Ryan Casey and his dance company will tell the story of a student who begrudgingly tackles his summer reading list and exercises his overactive imagination. This rhythmic reimagining of beloved books and poems, from Shel Silverstein to Shakespeare and western novels to comics, will introduce and reacquaint students to books, genres, and characters that tie into their English language arts curriculum. Learning the Blues (Ages 8+)
Register by Friday, January 13, 2017 When: Thursdays Jan 19 - Mar 2 (6-week session) 9:00 - 10:00 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/23, 3/2 Who: Ages 8+ Price: $12 What: If your child plays piano, keyboard, or guitar, even at a beginning level, help him or her to discover the source of jazz and rock music. Blues is one of the easiest musical structures and can be grasped by even young beginners. The class will cover the instantly recognizable (by all!) 12-Bar Blues form with which students can play thousands of different tunes, but also which teaches the art of improvisation ("jamming"). By class' end, each student will have a firm grasp of the origin and structure of rock and roll as well as musical understanding that will last a lifetime. |
