Fields Point Wastewater Treatment Facility
1 Service Road
Providence, RI
*For ages 8 and up*

Ever wondered what happens after you flush the toilet? To find out, join us for a tour of the Narragansett Bay Commission’s Field’s Point Wastewater Treatment Facility, the largest clean water facility and the nation’s third-oldest. Commissioned in 1901, the facility is one of the most technologically advanced wastewater treatment facilities in the nation.

Topics we will discuss that tie in to the treatment process here and keeping the bay clean:

- trash, chemicals, metals, etc.. that can be harmful

- the removal of bio solids from the water and what we do with the dried up sludge we get from that

- nitrogen removal

- stormwater

- chemicals used to disinfect

- wind power – we have 3 massive wind turbines on campus

- green energy

Please dress warmly and wear closed-toed shoes. This trip is only open to ages 8 and up due to Narragansett Bay policy for this facility.
