Each tour time will be split into 3 groups. Your assigned group (A, B, C) will be emailed to you prior to the event date.

Enjoy a guided tour of the State House. The stops may include the Bell Room, where Rhode Island's replica of the Philadelphia Liberty Bell is displayed; the State Room, where Gilbert Stuart's famous portrait of George Washington hangs; and the Rotunda, where you can gaze upward at one of the world's largest, self-supported marble domes. This is a working building that houses the Rhode Island General Assembly and the offices of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, and General Treasurer of Rhode Island. Voices must be kept soft, and no running is allowed.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your tour time to pass through security. This is a guided group tour that lasts about an hour.
All bags will be searched, so to save time, bring in as little as possible.
Please register both adults and kids.


The State House is located at 82 Smith Street.
Access to the building is from the Smith Street side, which faces away from downtown Providence and the Providence Place Mall.
Visitors unable to use stairs may enter through the staff entrance accessed from the small parking lot on the east side of the building.
Metered parking is available on Smith, Francis and Gaspee streets. And nearby parking at the Providence Place Mall.
Handicapped parking is available in the small parking lot on the east side of the building. Visitors unable to use stairs may enter through the staff entrance accessed from this parking lot.
Elevators serve all floors of the State House.
Wheelchairs are available free of charge for usage in the building. Capitol Police officers at the staff entrance will assist visitors in obtaining a wheelchair.
Open food and drink may not be carried through the building.
Eating and drinking are prohibited during guided tours.
