Space is limited. Learn what early American settlement life was like through a series of interactive, hands-on activities. Students will rotate between four stations: Illumination: Students learn about the realities of how settlers needed to create their own source of lighting using the resources available. Students will make their own candles using the techniques of the colonists. Students will leave with their very own handmade candle. Colonial Life: Students will visit our historic buildings and museum room where students are given a brief introduction to the history of the Casey Farm and life of the settlers in the Colonial Times. Dyed in the Wool: From beets and onion skins to a particular kind of beetle, learn what American colonists used for dyes. Students will collect items from the farm to make dyes to dye a swatch of cloth. Keeping the Family Healthy: How did the colonial housewife keep her family healthy? Students will pick Casey Farms Fresh herbs and will then investigate herbal recipes. * Depending on herb crop, this segment may be swapped out for a different hands-on program. This is primarily an outdoor program, dress to be outside. Casey Farms does require masks when entering into an enclosed building. |
