Rhode Island State Archives Field Trip

The State Archives is home to more than 10 million letters, photographs, and important state documents that form a permanent, tangible record of Rhode Island’s rich history, dating back to 1638. For this field trip, students will rotate through stations where they will learn about primary sources, historical documents, and the Rhode Island State Archives. Stations include:

An introduction to primary source research and the basics of preserving historic documents.

A guided tour through some of our state’s most significant historic documents. Educators may request to view documents that relate to specific periods or events to complement classroom work.

A docent led tour of the exhibition on view in the State Archives Gallery.
Younger siblings are welcome to tag along. It's not a large space; please register everyone in the party who is attending.
PARKING: Free, two-hour validated parking at Down City Parking on the corner of Westminster & Snow Streets.
