Religions of the World: Sikh Temple
Sunday, May 20, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (meal will be provided)
Gurdwara Sahib, 168 Flanders Road Westborough MA 01581
During this visit to the Gurdwara, the Sikh temple, our homeschool group will have the opportunity to witness first hand a Sikh service. Our visit will start with a thirty minutes info session, followed by participation in a service. The majority of the service is expressed via live music (Kirtan) - harmonium, tabla, and vocal chants which are passages from the scriptures. Once the service is over, around 1:30, we are invited to join the community for a traditional vegetarian meal together (Langar).

Please wear conservative attire (pants or long skirt). We will be asked to remove our shoes in the entryway and put on a head covering (not required for babies and toddlers). There are head scarves available at the Gurdwara, but if you prefer to wear your own, scarves, bandanas, or knit caps are all acceptable. No baseball caps or brimmed hats, please.
The congregation sits on the floor. Men sit on the left side of the center walkway and women to the right. Children may move freely between parents.
The large platform at the front of the congregation houses the holy book, Guru Granth Sahib. All prayers and services are centered around the holy book. Please avoid sitting with the feet out pointing toward the book.
Sign up by May 18. Space is limited, please only sign up if you can commit to attending.
