Description
Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden Center Tour & Activities
Friday, November 17, 2:00 - 4:00
1000 Elmwood Ave, Providence RI ** same location as Roger Williams Park Zoo; this would be a fun post-zoo school activity
Take a docent-led tour of the Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden Center's four lush greenhouses. We will talk about plant nutrition, anatomy, and reproduction; observe plant adaptations to our multiple habitats; and understand plant and animal interdependence through pollination and seed dispersal. Hand-on activities will include:
-
Seed Starting: Plant seeds in biodegradable pots. This activity is intended to be turned into a science experiment back home. What do seeds need to germinate? How long will it take? Once they start growing, what conditions do the plants need to survive?
-
Planting a clipping: We have spider plants that are great cleaners of air, so they make a great addition in the home. Students will plant a spiterette clipping from our parent plants.
-
Crafts: Mask making with leaves and items from our creativity bins. Design your own mask to wear.
$8 per student
Ages 3 and under can tag along for free
