Event Description

New Bedford Whaling Museum offers so many wonderful opportunities. For this event we have 3 parts to the day.

You will sign up for the self-guided tour and then add either Squid Dissection OR 3D Movie for each person:

Self-Guided Tour (all ages)
A self-guided visit to the New Bedford Whaling Museum lets families explore the history of whaling and maritime life at their own pace. Visitors can see enormous whale skeletons, a full-scale whaling ship model, historic artifacts, and interactive exhibits that bring the stories of sailors, whales, and the sea to life.

Squid Dissection (ages 8-13)
Students discover the unusual adaptations of squid by investigating their external and internal anatomy. In this hands-on activity, students use dissecting tools to locate and examine specific features and body parts of squid. Students learn how squid function and survive, and how they play an important role in the food chain for whales and other aquatic animals.

3D Movie (all ages)
Immersive your family in a 3D world Wonders of the Arctic
Set in the frozen wilderness at the top of the world, Wonders of the Arctic tells the story of survival in one of the most unforgiving environments on earth dominated by a single element: ice. Faraway in this glittering world of ice and snow, polar bears tussle, huskies howl and narwhals dive within the turquoise waters. Through compelling stories told by scientists and Inuit leaders, viewers will discover the impact of ice on the Arctic’s inhabitants, both animals and humans. For thousands of years, the Inuit and their predecessors have adapted and thrived in the beautiful yet harsh climates of the Arctic. Today, their survival has inspired scientists to conduct intense research and answer troubling questions about living in this fragile and largely uninhabited landscape.
