Keep Homeschool Weird Share-a-thon: Present Your Passion
When: Friday, Oct 11th 1-3 PM
Where: West Warwick Elks Lodge
60 Clyde Street
West Warwick, RI 02893
Who:
This fair is different! We strongly encourage students and parents to take spots and showcase their interests, passions, and/or hobbies. Homeschool families value learning all the time and we all have such varied interests, experiences, and pursuits, let’s connect and learn from each other regardless of age! The fair is for ALL ages!
Event Goals:
-
To learn about new hobbies, passions, experiences, and interests.
-
To make connections with other homeschoolers with similar interests.
-
To find experienced homeschoolers to learn new skills or get guidance from.
-
To be inspired by the fascinating pastimes of homeschoolers and their parents.
-
To share and wave our weird flags to each other in a supportive and curious environment.
-
To enjoy all the fun of an advanced show-and-tell!
How to Participate:
-
Every participant will get a part of a table, floor space, or even a parking spot (in case rebuilding cars or rocket ships is your thing) to display their passion. In the registration form, you will let us know what type of space you will need.
-
In your space, you will set up a display that explains your passion even if you are not standing there (because we want you to have time to wander around and make connections) This can be a trifold board, supplies, photos, a laptop with a video playing, end products, the cycle or steps of what you do, something interactive inviting others to try their hand at your passion, etc. Whatever makes sense and is what you want to share.
-
We ask that everyone makes and display Passion Connection Cards. This is a business or calling card. It should include your name, age (or lower elementary, parent, middle school age, etc.) Your displayed passion is highlighted AND a list of your other passions you have (cuz we know you have more than one) and a way to connect - this can be phone, email, FB messenger, or for kids your parent’s contact info. This way if someone wants to connect with you to learn more, have a playdate to do your passion together, or get some advice about the super cool topic you know and love they can connect with you. (Example Below - I made this in less than 5 mins for free on Canva, but it can be done in Word or Google Docs and be super plain and simple. This is just an idea and to show the basic requirements)
-
If your passion is something like Minecraft, Roblox, or Legos please try to share more of your specific interest in that area - using it to re-create historical battles, building architecture, using it to tell stories, costume designing with it, etc.
