Video Game Design and Prototyping
Video game making strategies are converging at a rapid pace right now as there are many competing software and hardware tools available. Prototyping has always been a good way to develop a game idea and test it with a wide variety of people before committing to a specific software or hardware implementation. Today, HTML5, CSS, GIMP, and JavaScript provide ample opportunity to create compelling game experiences that can be shared with others for feedback and iterative improvement. In this class, I will provide a kit for a platform game (think Mario Brothers or Sonic the Hedgehog) and walk students through the steps to create their own unique platform game with art, music, and unique rules implementation, all with free shareware software that runs on a standard desktop or laptop computer.
This class series will be a pared down version of this class: http://bdcampbell.net/games/
