9:45 Classes
Littles Dance           $25          Teacher: Molly Gans-Pomerantz
In this introductory dance class, students will learn basic steps, practice floor exercises, and explore rhythm and movement. Please dress to move! Students may dance in socks (no grippies, please) or wear ballet slippers if they have them. This class is being led by Molly, age 12 1/2. She has been dancing for ten years now and is excited to share her passion with our little coop members!
Max 8 students.

Healing Herbs        $45 ($30 class, $15 supplies)      60 minutes       Teachers - Lia Prentiss, Lee Cowan
Lia and Lee are continuing this popular class, however this session is for NEW students only!  We are surrounded by plants that can be wonderful allies to our well-being.  Join us as we get to know one or two plants a week and work together to prepare them for use in teas, tinctures, salves, spritzers, or food!  Students will be able to bring home their own creations as well as recipes and instructions for making them in the future.  This is a very hands on class-- touching, tasting, smelling, mixing, making-- coupled with quiet time at the table for listening and drawing.  Our aim is to foster a sense of connection and respect for our plant friends as well as explore natural ways to nurture our own well-being.  Lia and Lee grow their own plants and herbs and love sharing their knowledge of alternative uses for a wide variety of botanical species!  We are happy to have them with us!
Max 10 students.

Fashion Design Math         $30  ($25 class, $5 supplies)        Teachers: Allison Carrier
This new class will lead students in applying some basic algebra and geometry concepts to demonstrate how they are used in the field of clothing design.  Allison is a professional Costumer for theater and she uses math all the time in her work.  She would love to share with students how math is vital even in super creative and artistic fields!  We would focus on one main clothing design element each week and learn how to create sewing patterns for garments using geometry and solve other fashion design-related mathematical problems.  Not a hands-on sewing class (sewing knowledge helpful but definitely not required).  The class would assume an existing understanding of concepts such as the pythagorean theorem and the ability to find the circumference and area of a circle.
Max 12 students.

Nevelson Box Art          $40   ($25 class, $15 supplies)       Teacher: Tracey Neylon
The students will be making an assemblage style artwork. Each participant will be gathering a variety of 3D objects, found or recycled, and assembling them into a shadowbox type structure. We will paying attention to texture, geometric shapes, and creating an original low relief sculpture. This will be abstract. Kids will learn about balance, unity, and texture. They will be using glue guns and each final projected will be painted. My hope is to create a larger group installation piece for all to enjoy! This class is for beginners or more seasoned artists. Please feel free to look up Louise Nevelson and check out some of her work to get a feel of what we will be trying to achieve.
Max 8 students.

11:45 Classes

Students will choose a new topic that interests them, do the research at home and then during the 5 remaining classes have at least 2 different times that they will be the ‘professor’ and teach the class about their topic!  This class is not about public speaking, there will NOT be any critique of their presentation skills.  It will be a supportive and positive experience for all.  It is an opportunity for kids to get excited about a new question, research it, and share their findings.  You know the old adage, “You don’t start learning until you teach”.
There are 4 main learning goals for this class:
1. Learn how to craft a good research question.
2. Have an opportunity to independently do research and learn about a new topic that they are really curious about.
3. Have experience sharing what they have learned with others.
4. Be a supportive and positive teammate.
Presentations will be 10 mins or less.
During the first class students will choose their topics or a single topic and break it into sections.  As a group, students will work together to help each other to take their curiosity and craft it into a strong question to go home and find the answer to.  We will also discuss different ways to look for the answers to their questions.  Then during the 5 remaining classes students will be presenting their learning to each other.  The number of presentations done will depend on the number of students in the class.  Students should come to the first class with a few ideas that they are curious about. Max 10 students.

We will be looking at news sources for different current and past events, where our news comes from and who presents it. Does a news source affect how we think about a topic? Do different news sources tell us different information about the same event? We will focus more on HOW to be literate regarding the information available to us, and less strictly on current events. Step back in time and imagine yourself as an apprentice to a master painter!  This session we will be creating an oil painting in the luminous classical realistic style of the Old Masters, think Rembrandt or Da Vinci.  Oil painting is a slow process and we will be working on the same painting for the entire 6 weeks. (Da Vinci spent years creating the Mona Lisa!). We will begin with techniques for painting preparation, toning and preparing our canvas as well as drawing with graphite or charcoal.  We will then transfer our work onto the canvas board and begin underpainting techniques.  This process will continue as students build layers of opaque paint and thin glazes in oil on canvas to result in a monochromatic underpainting which will be ready to start color during the following weeks.  Students will be required to purchase many of their own supplies before class starts (including sketching pencils, paintbrushes, oil paints, palette with knife set, and an easel - which could be an additional cost of $150).  You may have some of these products already and a specific detailed list will be emailed to each parent prior to the first class.  For new or returning students.
